Autumnal views in the Gstaad holiday region

In autumn, there’s nothing quite like sitting back on a bench after a good hike and taking in the breathtaking scenery. What a great reward after a challenging climb! And even more so when the autumn leaves flood the slopes with colour. We reveal the spots with the best views in the holiday destination of Gstaad.

From Sparenmoos to Hundsrügg

This route features over 427 jaw-dropping peaks: The path leads you from the Sparenmoos car park above Zweisimmen to the slightly sloping Nüjeberg plain on to Alp Schiltenegg and all the way to the Hundsrügg summit at 2,047 metres above sea level. Along the way, you will be treated to panoramic views of Mont Blanc, the Eiger and the Matterhorn. You’ll never get tired of these stunning views! But if you want to take some time to unwind, the best place to do so is Site Alp. Stop for a bite to eat in the ‘Beizli’ (restaurant) (open until the end of September). Until mid-September, you can even visit the cheese dairy and watch the cheese-making process.

A ridge walk on Rinderberg mountain

The Gstaad holiday region has a host of excellent vantage points that make for a great place to linger. One example is Rinderberg-Spitz with its new 360-degree viewing platform. You can admire even more impressive views on the easy high-altitude hike from the Rinderberg – which you can conveniently reach from Zweisimmen by gondola lift – to the Hornberg, which rises to a height of 1,811 metres, via Gandlouenegrat and Alp Parwengen. The Horneggli mountain station is the place to begin your journey back into the valley, either by chair lift to Schönried or on foot towards Saanenmöser or Schönried.

Panoramic views from the glacier region

It’s time to make your way up to Glacier 3000! There’s a wealth of things to do in Bernese Oberland’s unique glacier region – and it also offers breathtaking views. You’ll be able to spot two dozen snow-capped mountains standing at over 4,000 metres in height from various places. Among others, you’ll make out the Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau and Mont Blanc. The Peak Walk by Tissot, the world’s first suspension bridge to connect two mountain peaks, is a particular highlight. You can reach this area from Gstaad in around 30 minutes by postbus.

Fondue against the backdrop of Schönried’s local mountain

A culinary experience with a twist awaits you on Alp Grosse Vorschess. Here, you can feast al fresco on fondue from an XXL caquelon. Simply order your ready-packed fondue rucksack the day before your trip at the Molkerei Schönried dairy and collect it on the day. It contains all the utensils and ingredients needed to make your ‘outdoor fondue’. Satisfied and full, you will then be ready to tackle the descent!

Looking out over Lake Lauenen

Having sung ‘Dert hinger bim Louenesee’ (‘down by Lake Lauenen’), Span, a Bern-based rock band who sing in Swiss dialect, would agree that this lake is a simply stunning spot. The view of the water from the nature reserve at a height of around 1,381 metres is magnificent, especially in autumn when the leaves are changing colour and are reflected in the water’s surface. It’s a wonderful setting for a romantic lakeside walk! You can get the best views from the restaurant, which is located on a slight slope. From here, you can see all the way to the Tungelschuss waterfall and the Wildhorn mountain. You can easily get there by postbus, which takes guests from Gstaad to Lake Lauenen and back until the end of October.
